Our Water Project -
Clean Water for Healthy Families
We are excited to introduce our Water Project, an initiative focused on providing safe and clean drinking water to families and children within our programs. Access to clean water is essential for good health, yet many families still rely on unsafe water sources, putting them at risk of preventable diseases.

To address this need, we are using Purifaaya clay pot water filters. These filters are made in Uganda, for Uganda, using locally sourced materials. They provide a simple, sustainable, and effective way to purify drinking water at the household level.

Our goal is to ensure that every family connected to our programs has access to safe drinking water. We have already provided water filters to all children and families at Manna Rescue Home (MRH), as well as all staff members. In addition, we are distributing filters to every child and family within the YES Uganda sponsorship program.

We are hopeful to provide one water filter to each family, alongside ongoing follow-up, training, and education. This training helps families understand how to use, clean, and care for their filter properly, ensuring long-term effectiveness and lasting impact.
Selection Process for Our Water Project
This project focuses on families who are part of the YES Uganda sponsorship program and the MRH community, particularly those with limited access to clean and safe drinking water. By prioritising these families, we ensure that support reaches those most vulnerable to water-related illnesses.
Our approach allows us to maximise impact while promoting dignity, sustainability, and local solutions.
Why We Started the Water Project
We started the Water Project after witnessing firsthand the daily impact that unsafe drinking water has on the lives of the children and families in our care. Many families rely on water sources that are contaminated, placing them at constant risk of waterborne diseases such as diarrhoea, typhoid, and stomach infections. These illnesses are largely preventable, yet they remain a common and ongoing challenge.
For children, the effects are especially serious. Frequent sickness means missed days at school, difficulty concentrating, and weakened immune systems. Some children fall behind in their studies simply because their bodies are too unwell to keep up. For families already living in poverty, repeated illness also brings added financial pressure through medical costs and lost income, deepening the cycle of hardship.
As staff and caregivers, we saw how something as basic as clean water could make a life-changing difference. Families were doing their best with what they had, yet without access to safe drinking water, their efforts were often undermined by illness beyond their control.
By providing a reliable and affordable water filtration system, we aim to break this cycle. Access to clean water reduces illness, improves overall health, and creates a more stable environment for children to grow and learn. With safe water in their homes, children can attend school more consistently, focus on their education, and have the opportunity to thrive.
This project is about more than water—it is about dignity, health, and giving families the foundation they need to build a better future.
